Bangalore-based band Agam, who fuse Carnatic, Sufi, Hindustani classical and rock music genres, recently played at the Hard Rock Café. The seven-piece Carnatic rock act got an excellent response from the audience, which relished the beautiful meshing of genres and styles.

“Brahma’s Dance” opened the band’s performance, and they performed several other compositions including “Mukamdar,” “Thapang Jam,” “Kooth Over Coffee Jam,” “Malhar Jam,” and “Rudra,” out of which “Rudra” got such an outstanding response they had to give a repeat performance of the song.

Ghazal king Jagjit Singh has recorded the bhajan “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” for the series Gandhi–A Journey of Mahatma. The song has been composed by Rabi Dev.

“Singing for the sacred bhajan of Mahatma ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ was like being in the state of meditation,” said Singh. “In a timeframe when the Western culture is overriding and overshadowing our youth, making an autobiographical series on him, a personality which was larger than life, becomes more important to people who follow him and live his values but they don’t know much about him, they can be inspired, educated by this series and change their lives.”

Director Ashwini Sharma revealed, “After singing the bhajan, the ace ghazal king was so delighted that he denied to take his rendition fee.”

The series is the result of 15 years of research by both Sharma and Dr. Rajendra Upadhyay.

Eccentric Pendulum, Providence and Vizia to perform at Blue Frog Metal Nights

Amanda Sodhi
Indian bands Eccentric Pendulum, Providence and Vizia will be performing at Blue Frog Metal Nights on Sunday, July 10.

“Metal as a genre is very niche in India and has few venues programming it,” said Shadaab Kadri of Blue Frog Metal. “Blue Frog decided to start metal nights to cater to this expanding audience base and we have not looked back. The Blue Frog Metal Nights have had some insane performances to a packed house by some of the top acts in the country.”

Eccentric Pendulum is a Bangalore-based metal band, which was formed in 2008, while Vizia and Providence are both Mumbai-based groups.
