Composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan, of the Shankar-Eshaan-Loy trio, has released his debut ghazal album, Teri Hee Parachhayian, under the Times Music label. The album consists of eight ghazal tracks composed by Ashish Majumdar with lyrics by Canadian poet Dr. Inderjit Nirdoshi.

“Teri Hee Parachhayian is my dream project. The composition by Ashish and the soulful lyrics of kavi Inderjit Nirdoshi inspired me to sing,” said Shankar Mahadevan in a press statement. “I just couldn’t resist this opportunity, to contribute my best for non-film music which has been hidden behind today’s Bollywood pop-rock culture. I just hope that this effort of us helps to spread the knowledge of ghazals amongst youngsters.”

“It is good that such a talented singer is taking an effort to perk up the non-film music,” said ghazal king Jagjit Singh. “It’s not like ghazals or classics are dead, but it’s hidden behind the vulgarity and profane lyrics. I hope that all Shankar Mahadevan fans listen to this album and make it a hit.”

“The album is composed keeping in mind the taste of young generation,” said Ashish Majumdar. “It’s a mixture of western and classical music along with the orchestration. The beauty of Teri Hee Parachhayian is that the ghazals can be heard and sung with or without orchestration.”
