For too long, the big debate has always been about which Bollywood star would eventually make the crossover leap into Hollywood. The success rate hasn’t exactly set the box office on fire. Of the big-name Bollywood “stars,” only Anil Kapoor has had any measure of success.

Priyanka Chopra, however, has decided to not only change the rules of the game, she’s decided to change the game itself. Last Friday, Chopra tweeted: “I’ve signed a global recording deal with Universal Music Group (UMG) & Desi Hits! The album will be in English & will have a worldwide release.” Orchestrated by Desi Hits!, the company behind the recent Bollywood remixes for Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, Chopra’s album deal will see Interscope Records release the album in North America and Island Records in the rest of the world. In addition, Troy Carter, CEO of artist management firm Atom Factory and Lady Gaga’s manager has signed on to manage Chopra’s international singing career.

According to an interview on the Desi Hits! website, Chopra says, “The music I’m working on is all very new at the moment, it will be a pop album but with a few dance tracks. I will be writing all my own lyrics.” Regarding production partners, Chopra reveals, “I will be working a lot of producers like Jeremy Skaller, Rodney Jenkins and Wayne Wilkins. All of these producers have their own unique sound and they’re helping me find my sound.”
