Jodhpur RIFF Back for Fifth Edition

Traditional music festival of Rajasthan, Jodhpur RIFF, is back in its fifth edition. The festival ranks among the top 25 international music festivals and will take place from October 12-16 at the Mehrangarh Fort.

Jodhpur RIFF will bring together more than 150 musicians and performing artists from around the world this year. There also will be interactive folk sessions for music aficionados to learn different music genres from musicians.

“Jodhpur RIFF has focused on the richest folk music of Rajasthan and on sustaining and revitalizing its musical heritage over the years”, said festival patron HH Maharaja Gaj Singh II. “We wish to showcase our talent not just as traditional folk performers but as talented and versatile musicians, alongside the best in the world”.

Divya Bhatia, director of Jodhpur RIFF, said: “Jodhpur RIFF has always been a celebration of music from Rajasthan and from all over the world. At core, its effort is spiritual but its outlook is holistic and has a unique attraction for ardent music lovers from here and abroad”,

Band of Brothers, Grigoriyan and Tawadros, Bhanwari Devi, Kadar Khan Langa, Shakar Khan, Jumma Khan Mewati, Sumitra, Daya Ram, Raeis Khan, and Munshi Khan, Kavita Seth, Rupa and April Fishes, Davy Sicard, will perform at the festival, in addition to many other well-known artists and bands.

Junoon Plan 20th Anniversary Celebration

Junoon’s lead guitarist and founder Salman Ahmad is preparing to celebrate Junoon’s 20th anniversary on a grand scale. Ahmad announced on his Twitter page that Junoon’s ex-bassist and producer Brian O’ Connell will be performing on Junoon’s 20th anniversary celebration concert in New York on 24 September.

Ahmad is also planning to launch a 20th anniversary box set chronicling Junoon’s journey. The album will also feature guest artists including Outlandish, Aag, Kominas, Strings, DJ Rekh, Taimur Rahman, Bilal Khan, Zeb and Haniya, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Saieen Zahoor and Usman Riaz.

In related news, Indian filmmaker Mira Nair has asked Ahmad to join her upcoming project based on the novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

New Music Reality Show to Premiere on Star Pravah

Star Pravah is all set to premiere a new music reality show Aata Hovun Zau Dya today, which will run Monday through Wednesday. The show will be hosted by popular Marathi actor Siddharth Jadhav, will feature eight celebrity team captains, including Vaishali Mhade, Rahul Saxena and Mangesh Borgavkar, and will be judged by critically acclaimed Marathi actress Ashwini Bhave, singer Sudesh Bhonsale and music composer Rahul Ranade.

“Adhering to our promise of providing fresh and innovative content and programming we are pleased to present to our viewers Aata Hovun Jay Dya, a unique musical reality show”, said Nachiket Pantvaidya, general manager of Star Pravah. “The show guarantees to showcase the best of musical talents and stars favorite singers”.
