1.A Band of Boys Supports Anna Hazare
“The music video is specially offering from ABOB to empower masses to stand for the movement and we pray that the movement gathers enough steam to waylay the corrupt, the immoral and those who suck this country dry,” said Karan Oberoi of A Band of Boys. “It’s generally seen that the videos and songs tend to create a huge impact, so we decided to use this medium to support the movement. The song is aptly named ‘Jee Jaan Se,’ as it reflects the attitude of Anna and his supporters. “
2.First Documentary Ever on Kishori Amonkar Ready to be Screened
Amol Palekar and Sandhya Gokhale have made the first documentary film about classical music legend Kishori Amonkar. The 72-minute film is titledBhinna Shadia and it will be screened in Pune at the National Film Archive of India on 30 August.
“Once, she [Sandhya Gokhale] was chatting with me after a concert and the topic of documentaries on different maestros came up”, said Palekar. “I asked her why there wasn’t even one on her and she said, ‘You are the kind of person who should make it’. I was taken aback by her response but did not say anything at that moment”.
Shot in Goa, Pune and Mumbai, the documentary also features Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. The documentary focuses on Amonkar’s talent for singing and contribution to music.
3.An Ode to Thumri in New Delhi
A three-day thumri festival has been organized by Sahitya Kala Parishad and will take place in New Delhi at Kamani Auditorium through 28 August. The festival will include performances by critically acclaimed thumri music artists including Padmabhushan and Padmashree Suranjana Bose, Shubra Guha, Anjana Nath, Purnima Chaudhuri, Kakali Mukherjee and Girija Devi.
The festival’s aim is to promote thumri music among the youth and the festival will be inaugurated by Sheila Dikshit, chief minister of Delhi.
