A.R. Rahman to Have 2 Releases on Same Day

21 September. Rahman fans, circle the date in your calendar. A little over a week from now, two of A.R. Rahman’s most ambitious projects will release simultaneously. First, the one the entire world’s been talking about – his participation in SuperHeavy, possibly the unlikeliest supergroup of all time. On 21 September, Rahman and his odd bandmates – Rolling Stone elder Mick Jagger, hippie songstress Joss Stone, Marley scion Damien Marley and super-producer Dave Stewart – will release SuperHeavy’s debut album worldwide. The group has already released one single “Miracle Worker” and also streamed “Satyamev Jayate”, a Rahman-penned track.

As if one history-making album wasn’t enough, Rahman has another project releasing that same day. His soundtrack for the eagerly anticipated Rockstaralso will release on the same day. The film, directed by Imtiaz Ali (Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal), stars Indian filmdom’s brightest young star Ranbir Kapoor with music written and produced by Rahman. The film’s soundtrack is the first time Imtiaz Ali and Rahman will be working together. Since both Ali and Rahman are on massive individual hot streaks, the resulting collaboration is expected to be nothing short of magnificent. In fact, Rahman’s music plays such an integral role in the film that Ranbir Kapoor learnt how to play the guitar for the role and even spent a week in Chennai during the recording of the soundtrack.
