India to Host Cultural Program

in Paris to Honor Rabindranath Tagore

India will host a cultural program this week at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in memory of poet Rabindranath Tagore. Nobel laureate Tagore’s works of literature, art and music will be showcased at the event titled “Remembering Tagore” which has been organized to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.

An official press release stated the program is part of the two-day High-Level Sponsoring Committee (HLSC) for the Reconciled Universal for Rabindranath Tagore, Pablo Neruda and Aime Cesaire.

The program will include screening of a documentary by critically acclaimed and award-winning filmmaker Satyajit Ray on Tagore in English with French subtitles, a Hindi rendition of Tagore’s songs by award-winning singer Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam, a violin recital of Tagore’s music by L Subramaniam, a Bangla rendition of Tagore’s songs by Shama Rahman, a recitation of Tagore’s poems by filmmaker Aparna Sen, Tagore Lounge by Bickram Ghosh and Shama Rahman and also a Bangla rendition of a Tagore song by Santanu Roy Choudhary.

5/12 – The Musical Count

Worldwide Records has released tabla duo Ravindra and Rajesh Rajbhatt’s album 5/12 – the Musical Count. Ghazal king Jagjit Singh was the chief guest at the album launch and many other musicians and celebrities attended including Mona Roy, Prachi Shah, Taufiq Quereshi and Bhavdeep Prashad Jaipurwale.

“This is a rare combination of five ragas around life,” said the Rajbhatt brothers who have performed one of the jugalbandis on Shiv Shakti.

“Worldwide Records has released many different albums and we wanted to bring something different for music lovers so 5/12 – The Musical Count has arrived,” said Ratnakar Kumar, Managing Director of Worldwide Records.

Rajesh Rajbhatt is the son and student of Pandit Hazarilal Jaipurwale and he has played with legendaries in the music industry including A.R. Rahman, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Jagjit Singh, Ustad Sultan Khan, and international artists including Trilok Gurtu, Dominic Miller, Begum Abida Parveen.

Ravindra Rajbhatt has been associated with Pankaj Udhas, Jagjit Singh, Pandit Govind Prasad Jaipurwale, Dr. L Subramanium, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, Ranjit Barot, Grammy award winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pt. Ronu Majumdar, and Shekar Sen in their national and international concerts.
