Times Music has released a tribute album to honor ghazal king Jagjit Singh who recently passed away at the age of 70 after being admitted into a hospital for brain hemorrhage. The album is devotional in nature and is titled A Spiritual Journey. The two-disc set contains a compilation of his bhajans, chants and sankirtan. The album contains chants including “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna”, “Om Jaap”, “Jai Shri Ram Surmala” and “Arogya Mantra”.“Jagjit Singh was undoubtedly one of the greatest talents of our times,” said Mandar Thakur, COO of Times Music. “We were very privileged to have worked with him in a close way on so many devotional albums. A Spiritual Journey is a very special two-CD compilation of some of his best devotional tracks from the Times Music catalog. Our company has been built from the ground up selling the best devotional music in the market, and Jagjit ji’s contribution to this genre will definitely be missed not just by us but by the entire industry and its fans”.

Euphoria Release Album After 5 Years

Amanda Sodhi

Indian band Euphoria have finally launched their fifth album, Item, five years after their album Mehfuz released. The album was launched at Hard Rock Café, in Mumbai under the Universal Music label. Sonu Nigam, Shamir Tandon, Wajit, Manasi Scott and Mukti Mohan attended the launch where the band performed a few of their popular songs.

“It’s been five years since Mehfuz was released”, said Palash Sen of Euphoria. “Five years of happiness and strife, concerts and travel, music and tears, introspection and realization. Five years, nine songs, a million thoughts and a trillion uncertainties, and then suddenly Devraj and his team at Universal. Eventually, here we are with ONE item. The nav ras of modern India. It is an album made against all the odds and only because the audience is still not finished with Euphoria. In times when only film music is released and heard, here we are with the non film music retort – Item”.

“This album is personally close to me as these are very close friends creating some outstanding music”, said Devraj Sanyal, managing director of Universal Music India and SAARC. “This album is an amazing confluence of nine tracks each better than the other in its own way. This is one album that will definitely make waves and we will put the entire weight of the Universal Music machinery behind Item”.

The title Item is a satirical play on Bollywood’s obsession with “item” songs in films.

The first episode of the highly anticipated The Dewarists TV series beamed into homes across India this weekend, showing us the collaborative process between Vishal Dadlani (Pentagram lead singer and one-half of superhit Bollywood musical duo Vishal-Shekhar) and Grammy-winning British songstress (and one-woman production maven) Imogen Heap.

Shot on location at the sprawling Samode Palace Hotel in Rajasthan, the episode featured the first of many collaborations that will be the focus of the series. Collaborations include Pakistan folk-pop act Zeb and Haniya with Bollywood composer Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire, Indian Ocean and Mohit Chauhan, Parikrama and Agnee with Shilpa Rao, Monica Dogra, Shri, Rajasthan Roots and more.

For those who may have missed the first airing, they can catch the entire first episode here:

The Imogen Heap-Vishal Dadlani collaboration resulted in the song “Minds Without Fear”, a soaring meld of Indian rhythms and Western melodies inspired by the famous Rabindranath Tagore poem “Where the Mind Is Without Fear”. The track is available as a free download for one week only.
